Thanks to Louise for sharing news of this initiative with OnTheWight readers.
Sandown Library is delighted to be the venue for a new health and wellbeing initiative, starting on Monday 22nd April. The Sessions will take place in the Community Room above the library, and start at 7pm.
Art2artz, a not for profit community arts studio and gallery in Sandown, will be running classes designed to support people who may be experiencing mild health, social or emotional issues that creative activities may help alleviate.
Contribute to group journal
At the classes, people are encouraged to contribute to community arts by creating a group journal, which encourages them to be together, enhancing social skills and alleviating isolation, and works to people’s strengths whether visually artistic or by using writing, poetry etc,.
Sessions start with a relaxation exercise and moves into a discussion and creative period.
Sessions are kept reasonably short (90 mins) to allow for health issues where fatigue may mar activities. Sessions will be two weeks on, one week off – usually.
Funded sessions available
Participants are all encouraged to contribute a small amount financially, use their own equipment where possible, and to collect memorabilia or interesting scraps for their own use.
Funded sessions are available for Universal Benefit claimants, and people may be referred by their GPs.
