Artist Networking Evening at Quay Arts: Growing In Popularity!

Artist Networking EveningLast Thursday saw the return of the increasingly popular Quay Arts’ Artists’ Networking Evening (AnE) for 2009 with around fifty visitors.

Artist, Marius von Brasch and arc* co-ordinator Jonathan Parsons, presented an interesting discussion on Marius’ series of woodpanels and collages currently exhibiting in the Rope Store Gallery: ‘Oedipus Diving, Shadow Games’.

The ‘in conversation with’ format allowed for an audience Q&A session at the end and helped to provide further insights on how Marius’ latest body of work came into being.

Quay Arts offers the opportunity for exhibitors to talk about their work and allows participation with the community to become actively involved with these types of events within the Quay Arts Visual Arts programme.

AnE is a relatively new event that is rapidly gaining popularity with Island artists and visitors from further afield too.

AnE takes place on the last Thursday every month and features a guest speaker who provides a focus with regard to local, national and international arts and creative development.

There is also the opportunity for practitioners to advertise and promote any forthcoming projects at this regular event.

Visitor to this talk and local artist, Lisa Traxler commented:

“We were given a personal insight into the artist and his work – prompted by critical questions enabled Marius to engage in a thought provoking discussion led by Jonathan Parsons from arc, Aspex.

The work itself sits powerfully within the intimate space of the Rope Store & this along with a packed gallery (standing room only) contributed to a vibrant, contemplative & extremely inspiring evening. Where were you?”
