Sally Perry is Co-founder, Editor and Reporter at Isle of Wight News from OnTheWight.
Sally has been recognised nationally for her in-depth coverage of the three-week occupation of a factory by workers. As Journalism.co.uk commented at the time, “[they] gave the national and local media a run for its money with its comprehensive coverage of the industrial dispute".
She also received an award for her dogged persistence in highlighting the plight of landlocked Ventnor Undercliff residents following a major landslide (over 200 articles in four+ years).
As well as covering local democracy and holding those in power to account for their decisions, OnTheWight is a champion of The Arts, regularly celebrating the creative talents of Islanders.
What a wonderfully selfless act. 15 year old Abbie Howard has created these brilliant sock monkeys (from good quality brand new socks) and it selling them to raise money for the Hospice. Only £4.50 each!
Here's the document that the company that is hoping to persuade the Island that an Asphalt plant in Cowes is just what the Island wants has sent to the Island media. They didn't include VB in their distribution, but things have a way of turning up in our inbox ;-)
Congratulations to Island-born Canoeist Richard Jefferies who qualified in the 1000m canoe sprint this morning. See him compete in the final on Wednesday and take part in the qualifying heats on Friday morning for the 200m.
Isle of Wight born, Richard Jefferies will be taking part in the Olympics tomorrow (Monday) morning in the Canoe Sprint 1000, followed by 200m on Friday. Go Richard!
We're massive fans of Island artist Rachael Berry and so chuffed for her that her work has been selected to be shown on giant LED screens in Times Sq, NY!
