Be a part of the Big Butterfly Count: Take 15 minutes for nature

The Big Butterfly Count begins this Friday, 12th July 2024, and will run until Sunday, 4th August.

This UK-wide survey aims to help Butterfly Conservation assess the health of our environment by counting the number and types of butterflies and some day-flying moths we see.

How to participate
To take part, download the handy butterfly ID chart or the free app for iOS and Android. These tools will help you identify and record the butterflies you spot.

Choose a place to watch butterflies and moths between Friday, 12th July, and Sunday, 4th August.

Watch for 15 minutes, then record which species you see.

Contributing to conservation science
The Big Butterfly Count 2024 is now open, ready for the main event between 12th July and 4th August.

You can add your counts on the website or via the app.
