Behind the scenes at Mountbatten: Services, music and heartfelt connections

A special week-long event will showcase and celebrate everything Mountbatten has to offer to Islanders.

The charity is hosting an open week from 9th to 14th October, featuring a range of special talks and activities, aimed at giving people a closer look at its work.

Opportunities to learn more about Mountbatten’s home care, bereavement support and other services all feature in the programme, alongside a music concert and a free family fun day.

Hornblow: Too often, people leave it until they are very ill
Charlotte Hornblow, Mountbatten community fundraiser, said,

“We want people across the Island to understand more about Mountbatten and all the ways we can make a difference.

“Too often, people leave it until they are very ill to get involved with us, when we could have helped them much sooner.

“We want people to feel safe and confident about us and see there is much more to Mountbatten than they might think.”

Former Sky News journalist turned Island podcaster Harriet Hadfield will interview Mountbatten CEO Nigel Hartley in a live Q&A session.

Book via the Website
Some events, including the Q&A, are free to attend but tickets should be booked via Mountbatten’s Website.

Drop-in sessions around recruitment, volunteering and fundraising opportunities will also be available.

Nigel said,

“Many people do not know our hospice building is open to the public; for example, we hold several social support groups, we host a monthly concert, and our café serves hot and cold food, including a delicious Sunday lunch.

“We hope people will come to the open week and be surprised by what it is really like at Mountbatten and dispel some common misconceptions.”

Collaboration with schools
As part of the event, Mountbatten is also working closely with Island schools to launch a schools art gallery, with pupils and parents invited to participate in the official opening.

You can find out more about what activities you can expect during the week and how to book your place for a variety of events on the Website.
