Bembridge environmental day brings together Island conservation groups and climate documentary screening

Bembridge Parish Council will be hosting an environmental awareness day on Saturday 18th April 2026 in Bembridge Village Hall from 9am-1pm.

A morning of environmental action
The parish council are working hard alongside a variety of local groups to find practical solutions to protect our environment and our climate for both nature and for ourselves.  Come along and see what is being done in Bembridge and across the Island to support this work.

Let us know what you are doing or would like to be doing locally to make our Island a better place for ourselves and for nature.  Find out actions you can do as an individual to help or become part of a growing team of volunteers making a positive change.

Speak to the experts
There will be a variety of environmental groups there both from Bembridge and from the Island as a whole.  Groups such as: The Tree Council, Plastic Free Bembridge, Save our Hedgehogs Isle of Wight, The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Bembridge Resilience Group and Greenpeace Isle of Wight.

By working together we are building a strong network of people and organisations who are making the Isle of Wight a better place for nature and for people.

Climate documentary and expert discussion
There will also be a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing documentary at 10am in the back hall.  This is a 50 minute film following on from the National Emergency Briefing  held last November, in Central Hall Westminster.

Here ten of the UK’s leading experts spelt out the  implications of climate and nature breakdown to over 1200 politicians and other leaders.   The aim of the briefing was to ensure that people are clearly and honestly informed regarding the climate and nature crisis and what needs to be done about it.

Following the film there will be an opportunity to discuss what you have seen, its implications for us and what you feel needs to happen.

Local MP to join post-film debate
Our local Conservative MP Joe Robertson will be there to see the film and will be part of the discussion after the it has finished. Because of the hard hitting nature of  this film, it is only for the 16 plus age group.

Reserve your ticket for the screening
To give us an idea of numbers attending for the film screening, we would be grateful, if you would reserve a ticket

Follow-up meeting planned for May
There will also be a follow up meeting on the 30th of May 2026 at Bembridge Fire Station to determine what more can be done locally after the People’s Emergency Briefing

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at the village hall so come along, be part of the conversation and find out more about what is going on in your local area to support nature and ourselves.
