The Academies Enterprise Trust(AET) operate seventeen academy schools across the UK, including two of the high schools on the Isle of Wight – Sandown Bay and Ryde.
Yesterday the Guardian carried a story investigating the high levels of pay of some of the people running the charities behind Academies across the county. One of those that got a mention was AET.
Top salary revealed
The Guardian reported that in the year ending 31 August 2010, “One member of staff at the Academies Enterprise Trust earned between £200,000 and £209,999.”
The report went on to say, “No member of staff had been in this pay bracket the previous year, the accounts show. The chain grew from three to six academies between August 2009 and the following year.”
AET comment to Guardian
When asking AET for comment, they told the paper, “The Academies Enterprise Trust said the financial packages of its staff reflected its expansion and the fact that some staff had received payments from their predecessor schools for the previous year’s performance.”
VB contacted AET for a comment and they sent us the following
The Academies Enterprise Trust has grown from its first three Academies in Essex in September 2008 to 17 Academies across Southern England in September 2011. It currently has a turnover of approximately £125 million and in our seventeen Academies there are 22,000 students and over 3,200 staff. By April 2012 we expect a further ten Academies to join the AET federation.
Overall our current open academies raised their 5 or more GCSE A*-C including English and Maths grades by over 7% in August 2011, building on last year’s 11.5% improvement.
These results make the AET one of the highest performing multi-sponsors.
It is the policy of the Academies Enterprise Trust not to confirm the salaries of individual employees.
The Academies Enterprise Trust stopped being a charity on 25 August 2011 after academy trusts automatically became exempt charities
