Bob and Jacquie with their trophy

Bob and Jacquie Wilson BEM named Wight Squirrel Project volunteers of the year

Last updated:

Super heroes Bob and Jacquie Wilson BEM are holders of the Wight Squirrel Project volunteer trophy for the year.

‘Absolute stalwarts’
Project founder and manager, Helen Butler MBE said,

“They are absolute stalwarts when it comes to looking after our precious red squirrels and have been doing so for a very long time.

“This is on top of taking in hedgehogs, Jacquie is well known as ‘the hedgehog lady’. We need more people like Bob and Jacquie!”

Could you help?
Are there any special people out there willing to help with sick, injured or orphan red squirrels?

Just picking an animal up and taking it to the vet is very useful, even if you cannot look after it.

Vet bills paid
Wight Squirrel Project will pay any vet bills incurred for red squirrels on the Island as part of our work.

Become a citizen scientist
Did you know the Isle of Wight is nationally important for our native red squirrels? We must look after them!

Monitoring is vital, so if you see a red squirrel on the Isle of Wight, please become a citizen scientist and let Helen know.

Contact details, an app and online form are found on the website.

Other ways to volunteer
We also need volunteers for other tasks, so if you are interested in volunteering please email Helen: [email protected]
