Just a few days ago, Isle of Wight MP, Bob Seely, was talking about how the Conservatives needed to “swim together otherwise we’ll sink separately”.
Today (Wednesday) on LBC Radio, following the resignation of Home Secretary, Suella Braverman (see her resignation letter below), Seely said that if Liz “can’t keep it together, we need to find an alternative”.
Seely: I want us to stabilise the situation
When asked whether he wanted Prime Minister, Liz Truss, to lead the Conservatives into the next general election, he replied,
“I want us to stabilise the situation and what that stability looks like, you know, if Liz can keep it together and stabilise the situation, great.
“If she can’t, we need to find an alternative, but I’m not looking for an alternative now, I think we need to try to stabilise the situation, but can I just say, look, this situation for the majority of MPs is as frustrating and irritating as it is for the majority of your listeners frankly.”
Seely: I really am getting fed up with this soap drama
Seely told the LBC presenter Tom Swarbrick, a former adviser to former Prime Minister Teresa May, that he apologised for what he referred to as the ‘soap drama’ going on in Government.
It’s likely that the millions of Brits who now face higher mortgage and credit card interest rates in the wake of increased energy costs and a rising cost of living, may consider the situation a bit more than a ‘soap drama’.
He said,
“I actually just want to apologise, I really am getting fed up with this soap drama as much your listeners are. Most Conservative MPs have been here for less than a decade, most of us, many of us have been here actually five years or less and we’re really just keen to get on with our jobs and serve our constituents.
“I am frankly as bemused as everyone else is and I’m really unhappy with the situation, but I and we will collectively do to get the show on the road again.”
