Bonchurch cliff fall being cleared

Update: The council say the debris will be cleared by the end of Friday.

An OnTheWight reader walking her dog yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon had a fright as she walked along the revetment between Ventnor and Bonchurch.

Just east of Wheeler’s Bay, a landslip took place as they were walking past.

Heather Whatley told OnTheWight that she first noticed her dog acting a bit strange. Then pebbles falling down the side of the cliff-face caught her eye and suddenly a huge boulder fell down the cliff bounced over the wall and onto the path.

Fellow OnTheWight reader, Richard Downing sent in this photo today of contractors clearing the debris, so we expect the footpath will be usable again later today.

This is the third cliff fall this week, the others taking place in Shanklin and Totland.
