An Isle of Wight Green Party meeting last night (Wednesday) unanimously agreed to put forward Vix Lowthion for the proposed new Isle of Wight East constituency, and Cameron Palin for the West constituency, subsequent to an online ratification vote of the full membership.
This decision is a change from the initial announcement in 2022, and a response to the final proposals from the Boundary Commission which has moved East Cowes into the West constituency.
Cameron Palin
Councillor Cameron Palin is currently the Deputy Mayor of East Cowes and this change will support his work in the town and the wider Medina area.
He has lived in East Cowes most of his life and is now raising a family of his own with his partner and their baby.
Cameron is also set to take up a post with an Island company in the housing sector after two years working in a local primary school.
Vix Lowthion
Vix Lowthion is an experienced local campaigner and has been the national spokesperson for Education for the Green Party for the last seven years. She lives with her three sons, works as a secondary school teacher and volunteers for a wide number of cultural, community and environmental groups across the island.
She has been the Green parliamentary candidate since 2015, growing her support on the Isle of Wight to one of the largest amount of Green votes in the entire country and a national target candidate for the party.
Her priorities for the East constituency will include clean beaches, cultural and economic opportunities, and actions to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.
Ratified next month
It is envisaged that the final online vote from local Green Party members to ratify this decision will be announced next month.
