Bowls club present cheque to John’s Club

During the 2012 bowling season, both men and ladies of the association, have been paying spurious fines and giving donations to the President’s Charity, which this year was the John’s Club.

The John’s Club offers a Social and Recreational activities for people, with learning or physical disabilities. They encourage their independence, further develop life skills and give respite to their parents, guardians and carers.

The President of Bowls Isle of Wight, accompanied by various officers; Junior Vice-President’s Allan Timbrell and Barbara Sleap, with the men’s and ladies secretaries David Brown and Val Addison, presented a cheque for £1,060. to the John’s Club Chairman, John Phillips who was accompanied members Colin Beer, Della Daniels, Alicia Jeavons and Jade Hornbuckle.

Under 25 match
The Isle of Wight Indoor Bowls Club played a match against Dolphin IBC from Poole. The Island’s youngsters had a great result in this match winning by 61 shots to 23, Dolphin were so far behind that they conceded the match at eighteen ends.

Playing away were Tansey Wheeler, Peter Wheeler, Josh Berry and Jack Berry, they won fairly easily by 21 shots to 11.

The home team were Ryan Trigg, Lucas Trigg, Robbi Hayes and Travis Mellor who had a massive win, by 40 shots to 12.

In the quarter finals, the team have been drawn against Egham IBC to be this match will be played on December 8th or 9th.

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of Bowls Isle of Wight was held at Isle of Wight Community Club on Saturday 10th November.

Life membership was conferred on both Peter Furmidge and Pearl Sherwood for their many years of service to the association both as top class players and their work on various committees.

At the meeting members were advised that it was proposed to change the venue of the National Championships so that both the men’s and ladies finals would both be played at Leamington Spa. The Islands bowlers agreed to vote in favour of this change.

The association’s Benevolent Fund balance was reported to be £2500.00. This season the fund had no applications for grants.
