Triumph over adversity
Arthur, who became a member of the British Sailing Squad earlier this year, has faced a significant setback with his cancer diagnosis.

The disease is chronic, requiring ongoing treatment, but Arthur is resolute in his commitment to achieving success in sailing, undeterred by his health condition. His resolve is a testament to his strength and dedication to the sport he loves.

Seeking support
While Arthur receives some funding from the British Sailing Team, he is actively seeking additional sponsorship and financial assistance. This support is crucial for his return to sailing after an eight-month hiatus due to his health.

The Classic Boat Museum in Cowes has already extended support by providing free use of their dinghy simulator, aiding Arthur in rebuilding his strength.

Additionally, on-water training at BHYC and a training camp in Portugal are part of his rigorous preparation for upcoming events in 2024.

Aiming high in 2024
Arthur’s first major goal, subject to his well-being, is to participate in either the Senior Europeans in Greece or the Under 21 Europeans in Mallorca in February or March 2024. He campaigns an ILCA7, a class with variable expenses due to the numerous events.

Historically, Arthur had to selectively miss events to manage a budget of around £25,000 annually. He hopes that his fundraising campaign will alleviate this financial strain, allowing him to compete more freely without the added stress that can impact his performance.

Budgeting for success
Many athletes in his sport invest significantly more, but Arthur has chosen to raise just enough to cover the entire year’s events while adhering to a self-imposed budget.

The funds raised will be strictly allocated to various aspects of his campaign, including travel, training camps, entry fees, equipment, supplements, coaching, and other essential expenses.

A packed schedule
Arthur’s ambitious plan for the next year includes participating in prestigious events such as the Senior Europeans in Greece, the Under 21 Europeans in Mallorca, and several Olympic week events in Mallorca, Hyeres, and Germany.

He will also compete in the Under 21 World Championships in Portugal. Training camps are scheduled between these events, with preparations at various venues and pre-camps at event locations.

Community engagement
Arthur also encourages those who cannot donate financially but have ideas, potential partners, or sponsors interested in promotion opportunities.

These could involve advertising on his sail, boat, clothing and equipment.

This call to action highlights the community spirit and collaborative effort needed to support an athlete’s journey in competitive sports.
