This in from the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, in their own words. Ed
The Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was called at 12.36 on Monday, 25 April 2011 by the Solent Coastguard for an immediate launch, following a report from a member of the public on a 999 call that a catamaran with people on board had capsized one mile east of Shanklin.
Skipper thrown into water
The lifeboat arrived on the scene to find that the catamaran’s mast had snapped and the skipper had been thrown into the water, he made it back on to the boat himself.
The mast and rigging was secured, and a tow line attached the vessel was then towed back to Yaverland.
The gentleman was not hurt and very appreciative of the crews efforts.
The lifeboat was then returned to station refuelled and washed ready for service.
