Cyclethon Raised Over £2,000 For Sandown and Shanklin Lifeboat Station

Well done to Linda Bassett, TJ’s Gym and all who helped organise or take part in Saturday’s fundraising cyclethon.

The aim was to raise as much money as possible for the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (they need to raise £150,000) and we understand that a whopping £2,000 was raised from the event.

All who took part said they thoroughly enjoyed it and many even asked when next one is planned for!

To become an annual event
Linda tells us that given its success, they are planning to make it an annual event.

The challenge was for teams of four to compete on the static bicyles. When we popped in to catch the action there were Police officers, fire crew and lifeboat crew all cycling frantically in their uniforms.

Awards presented to …..
We understand that the winner of best on day was Rob Merrifield (Buster) who only just beat the teams from TJ’s gym.

The best team effort was a tie between Shanklin Police team and Firefighter team from Shanklin who both put brilliant effort in. Best solo rider award went to Clive Hines from Shanklin and the sponsorship award went to Maggie Russel and her team partner Jean.

Well done to the 50+ riders who took part in the event. The two hour session was led by Steve Marsh from TJ’s gym and Suzanne.

Flowers, wine and whip were presented to Steve Marsh and Lisa King of TJ’s as a thank you, whilst the Police officers were given glow-in-dark handcuffs as well as trophy!

Thanks to John Burns’ of JBMTB Media for use of his shots of the event below.
