Isle of Arts Festival will be hosting a prize-giving ceremony for the winners of the Dr Who Short Story Competition on Saturday 20 April, at 5pm in The Baptist Church, Pier Street, Ventnor
High Sheriff for the Isle of Wight Mary Case and actor Lloyd Lee, who is playing Charles Dickens in a one-man show at Isle of Arts, will be reading excerpts from the winning entries and presenting the writers with their prizes.
Over 50 entries
The competition, run in association with crime writers Bob and Carol Bridgestock and the Wight Fair Writers Circle, received over 50 entries from budding writers of all age. Their stories were all highly imaginative and it is encouraging that there is so much creativity and interest in writing on the Island.
We are grateful to the businesses, many of them from the Island, who have generously donated prizes for the competition. These include a pair of Bestival tickets, afternoon tea at the Hambrough, a pair of V-Dub festival tickets for two adults and two under 16s; and a cut and blow-dry from Scott’s Hairdressing in the adult category.
Great prizes
Prizes for the 12-18 category include a set of Dr Who Books – one for each Doctor; an adventure experience for two from IW Adventure Activities; and a climbing session for two from Goodleaf. For the under 12s, the prizes include a family ticket to Dinosaur Isle, Doctor Who books, a £5 voucher from Sporties and sweets from the Rock Shop.
The competition has raised £146 for charity, which will be divided between the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and the Isle of Arts Foundation.
