This is great news for anyone interested in pursuing a career as a marine engineer. Ed
This October, one student on the Professional Yacht Engineer course at maritime training establishment UKSA will have the opportunity to apply for a bursary to help fund their studies.
The Shipwrights Ark Bursary of £2000 will be allocated to one deserving student who otherwise may not have been able to attend the professional career training course at UKSA on the Isle of Wight.
Jon Ely, Chief Executive at UKSA, commented: “The Shipwrights Ark Bursary will help give one deserving student a unique opportunity to study to the very highest level and gain the practical experience necessary for a successful career as a marine engineer. We are proud to be able to offer opportunities like these to deserving candidates, and look forward to working closely with them to help them achieve their career goals.”
The Shipwrights Company is 59th in the order of seniority of the 108 livery companies of the City of London. One of the larger companies, it has over 400 liverymen and 250 freemen, whose qualification for admission is a professional maritime background. The Charitable Fund makes grants to maritime charities and to youth organisations, and provides bursaries to help young people undertake sail training voyages.
Any prospective student aged between 18 and 25 is able to apply for the funding, irrespective of background.
