Vintage Southern Vectis Bus at Ryde Bus Station

Bus Station closure marked by visit from vintage buses

On Sunday evening (11th September) the imminent closure of Ryde bus station in its current form was marked by members of the IW Bus Museum.

Six buses from the museum’s collection made the short journey from Park Road to the Esplanade, attracting attention from enthusiasts and the public alike.

Ryde Interchange
The revisions to bus stopping arrangements are part of the wider Ryde Interchange scheme already in progress and the existing bus station closed on Tuesday 13th September.

While the work is in progress buses will stop elsewhere on the Esplanade, including the Rose Gardens.

Station being reconfigured
The current bus station came into use in May 1974, featuring the ‘sawtooth’ arrangement of bays.

The revisions now underway will be closer in nature to the pre-1974 arrangement, with a linear arrangement of bus stops.
