Busy weekend for Yarmouth RNLI

The volunteer RNLI crew launched Yarmouth’s Severn Class lifeboat, The Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer), twice over the weekend in response to two separate incidents.

In Saturday morning’s shout at 11.42am, the lifeboat was tasked with assisting a 44ft yacht with engine failure and a very fatigued crew of two.

In light winds, the yacht was unable to make way under sail, so a tow was established by the RNLI crew and the vessel was recovered to the safety of Yarmouth harbour, with the lifeboat arriving back at station by 2.05pm.

Powerboat sinking off the harbour
In a second incident closer to home on Sunday evening, the volunteer crew raced to assist a power boat which began sinking just off Yarmouth harbour.

As soon as the stricken vessel was alongside the harbour pontoon the lifeboat crew deployed a salvage pump to keep her afloat until she could be lifted to safety by the harbour crane.
