High speed car chases are just one aspect of some exciting filming taking place on the South of the Isle of Wight over the next couple of weeks.
Residents will notice a number of road closures from this Friday (see the details below) to allow for the filming of a Bollywood action feature film.
Sagger: Thanks residents for their patience
The production is being assisted by newly-formed Community Interest Company, Isle of Wight Film Fixers (IWFF).
Dadina Sagger from IWFF told News OnTheWight,
“Why so many road closures? To keep us all safe, as we have high action car chases, with baddies, police and heroes.
“We thank residents who might be disturbed for their patience, but rest assured our marshalls will filter cars through closed roads as and when between takes.”
Roads reopening as soon as all clear given
The action starts tomorrow (Friday) on the stretch of Undercliff Drive between St Catherine’s Road in Niton and the permanent road closure in Sr Lawrence (due to the 2014 landslide).
Dadina says the plan is to have around 20 local marshalls, who will be keeping a close eye out for anyone who might not have seen the road closed signs. A leaflet drop has apparently taken place on roads that will be affected.
Call for marshalls
Dadina goes on to explain that CIC is self-funding, adding that those who get involved will be supporting them by “giving a bit back”.
There is still a need for some marshalls for the filming taking place from tomorrow.
Rehearsals take place on Friday 21st January. The shoot dates take place Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd.
If you are free all day please send an email with your full name and age (must be over 18 years old) with contact number to [email protected]
Promoting the Island to the world
The CIC has promoted the Island as a location for film production. Dadina said,
“The Island is so much more than just amazing views. So many already in the industry usually have to work on the mainland or on long productions away, so we’ll be really happy if we get professional productions over, wanting to use the Island. It’s a win-win when they have IW professionals able to work for them too.”
Working with partners
The production are working with the support of Island Roads, Isle of Wight Council, local councillors and Crown Park, who will make sure that as soon as the action has been shot and the all clear is given that the closures will be removed.
The production will be on the Island until 5th February.
The road closures listed below (information provided by Island Roads) are required for safety during filming taking place in the area. The alternative routes and timings of these phased filming works will be sign posted locally.
