Call for suspension of road works during floating bridge service

In the second week of April the Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of service for seven days for its annual refit.

As usual vehicle traffic will be diverted via Newport.

Councillor for Cowes Medina, Lora Peacey-Wilcox, is calling on Island Roads to ensure that any planned roadworks along the diversion routes are suspended during this period.

She said,

“Can I please request that any work from the Crematorium roundabout through to Coppins Bridge is kept to ‘critical repairs only’ during this time, so to avoid the hideous delays that occurred the last time. Someone installed traffic lights on Racecourse, creating half hour+ delays.”

We’ll ask Island Roads whether there are any works planned during that period on either the West or East routes.

Floating Bridge refit
The floating bridge will be out of service from 8.30am on Monday 7th until approximately Monday 14th April 2014.

A passenger launch will be provided which cyclists can also use between Cowes and East Cowes whilst the Floating Bridge is out of service.

Cars and vans will be diverted via Newport during the refit.
