Captiva Homes unveils 200-home ‘affordable housing’ proposal for Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight housebuilder, Captiva Homes wants its major new 200-home development to be affordable.

New plans have been unveiled for Acorn Farm, at Horsebridge Hill.

203 houses and flats are proposed for a site on the main road, between Newport and Cowes, along from St Mary’s Hospital and HMP Isle of Wight.

72 one-bed ‘affordable’ apartments
Working with a registered housing provider, Captiva said it could access Homes England funding to convert the whole development into so-called affordable housing, with minimum of the 72 one-bed apartments ticking the affordable box.

In documents submitted to the council, planning agent, BCM on behalf of Captiva, says the development could be delivered in the next five years.

Already earmarked for housing
The Isle of Wight Council has already earmarked the 4.89-hectare site for housing.

In 2017, permission for eight houses became the latest scheme to be approved for the site.

Changes to Horsebridge Hill
Captiva’s plans could also see changes to the road on Horsebridge Hill, with a new signals and a designated right turn lane.

Wider improvements to the highways are also proposed as part of the application, including widening the southern side of Noke Common.
