Careers roadshow for Island Innovation students

Thanks to Suzanne and Alan for this latest news. Ed

Dozens of Year 11 students from both Carisbrooke College and Medina College attended a Careers event at the Island Innovation VI Campus at Newport recently.

This Roadshow was also available for the students already studying at the campus, who were looking for additional career guidance.

All the students were able to access information on their future careers whether their choice is to attend a further education college/university, study with a training provider or register for an apprenticeship.

Variety of sectors
There were stands from a cross section of providers all with information on their very diverse selection of career choices. Some even had information on salaries that could be expected and business benefits such as use of company cars and free living accommodation.

A number of providers based on the Island attended the event as well as Colleges and Universities from the mainland.

National organisations
There was also a good choice of national organisations such as the RAF, NHS and banks, local organisations including UKSA and local charities including The Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

Local contacts from mainland based companies were also in attendance including, Smart and PGL and a popular stand was that of Highbury College, Portsmouth which had members of the catering department handing out home-made chocolates and sweets.

Open evening
The II VI form, where the show was based also had its own stand with a reminder that on the 26th November there will be an open evening for prospective new students and parents.

Carisbrooke College Year 11 students had a career focus to their whole day with mock results, an opportunity to complete their CV and letter of application to college/VI form or employer as well as also spending time at the Federated VI Form campus at Nodehill where over 30 exhibitors were willing to answer any questions they may have had about Post 16 education.
