The repair of a collapsed sewer in Carisbrooke Road, Newport, will result in a two week road closure, says Southern Water.
A spokesperson for the utility company said,
“We’re sorry for the disruption this may cause customers and businesses in the area.
“Due to the nature of the work, a section of Carisbrooke Road will be closed for two weeks (from 23rd April) to ensure our teams can carry out this work safely.
“The closure will be between Cedar Hill and Wellington Road, and a two-way diversion will be in place using Priory Road, Gunville Road, Forest Road (A3054) and Medina Way.”
County Customer Manager for Southern Water, Adam Wilds, said,
“We’re sorry for the disruption these works may cause customers.
“Unfortunately, our teams are having to dig down five metres to carry our this complex repair. This means the work could take up to two weeks to complete – but we will do what we can to complete it sooner.”
The timing of the works was chosen to avoid the Easter Bank Holiday period, after the issue was discovered last week. The teams will be working 7.30am to 7pm on weekdays, and may work on Saturdays if necessary.
