Earlier this evening, news broke on the newswires that three crew members of Isle of Wight shipping company, Carisbrooke Shipping, had been taken hostage by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea.
It was confirmed to OnTheWight that two Russian and one Romanian crew members, all senior officers and long-time employees of the company, had been held hostage since yesterday (Thursday). The ship they were on, the Esther C, has been moved to safety and remaining crew transferred to another Carisbrooke Shipping vessel.
The company confirm they have received no communication from the pirates, but expect to hear from them in the next 24 hours.
