Cemetery Warden Scheme Attracts Interest

Last year, The Footprint Trust launched its Cemetery Warden scheme.

Despite the launch taking place on Friday 13th November, the response has been very successful with fifteen keen local people expressing a desire to take part.

An open open evening next month hopes to attract more would-be recruits.

The meeting takes place at The Parish Hall, Victoria Road, Freshwater on Friday 4th June at 7.30pm.

Ray Harrington-Vail of the Footprint Trust said “Cemetery Wardens will act as ambassadors for burial grounds, seeking to inform, educate and involve the local community and working with the owners of the site. They will work with other interested individuals and groups to assist in looking after the local burial ground.”

The West Wight Landscape Partnership is funding the scheme.

If you have an interest in burial grounds please contact the Footprint Trust for more details or find the leaflet in your local library.
