Further to yesterday’s report, Andrew Turner, MP for the Isle of Wight has announced a changed time for the public meeting to be held in the Riverside Centre, Newport.

riverside-centre-newportThe meeting will now start at 12.00 midday – not 1.30pm as previously advised. The change has been necessary as the Minister needs to travel back to Westminster earlier than expected.

Mr Turner commented, “I know many Islanders are concerned about the MCZ proposals and worry that they may have a negative effect on the commercial and recreational life of the Island; I hope they come along and take the opportunity to let the Minister know how they feel. Others are supportive of the plans and it is important that they also make their views known.

“The public consultation is still open until midnight on 31st March. Around the UK 127 sites have been proposed and the Government has suggested that 31 should come into effect this year. Although none of these 31 surround the Isle of Wight it is important that our views are heard now before the consultation period closes.”

The public meeting will take place at 12.00 midday on Monday 25th March at the Riverside Centre, Newport Quay, Newport, Isle of Wight.
