Changes to When Dogs Are Allowed on Island Beaches: Consultation

Dog owners will be well aware of the changes to Dog Control Orders that have taken place on the Island over the last year or so.

Changes to When Dogs Are Allowed on Island Beaches: ConsultationWhat you may not be aware of are amendments proposed to the Dog Control Order under section 55 of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 changing the areas of beaches which you cannot take dogs on between 1st May to 30th September each year.

A public consultation on the amendment, which ends on 18th December 2009, is taking place at the moment, through which you can let the council know what you think about the changes (contact details below).

We understand that if dog owners allow their dogs on the specified beaches within the May to September period it would be considered an offence.

If you want to check out the proposed Order and annexed maps in person you can do so by heading over to County Hall, High Street, Newport during office hours.

Alternatively you can do the same ar all libraries, Help Centres and even online at the Council’s website where you can view this PDF

If you have any comment or views on the proposed Dog Control Order send them to Community Safety Services, Charter House, 14 St Thomas’ Square, Newport PO30 1SL or email them community.support(at)iow.gov.uk.
