Charitable hopes for post-Christmas bonanza bazaar

An Isle of Wight man is holding a post-Christmas bonanza bazaar on the 2nd January, to support a project that tackles poverty through entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.

22-year-old Graham Hammond will travel to Bangladesh next month to work on the development programme for 12 weeks.

Graham will team up with Bangladeshi volunteers to support entrepreneurs and small businesses in the local community, after getting a place as an ICS Entrepreneur volunteer on the UK government funded scheme, International Citizen Service (ICS).

ICS Entrepreneur
ICS Entrepreneur enables young people aged 18-25 with an aptitude for business or a specific skill to contribute to projects in countries such as Kenya, Uganda and Nicaragua.

Volunteers from the UK and host countries share their skills and experience with small businesses and entrepreneurs in some of the world’s poorest communities to improve their profitability and help boost the local economy.

Volunteers also develop their professional skills to enhance their employability over the long term. On their return to the UK, ICS Entrepreneur volunteers undertake an ‘Action at Home Project’, ensuring that their skills also benefit their local communities.

“It’s vital I reach my target”
Graham said:

“My Bonanza Bazaar is a way of making sure developing countries can continue to benefit from the work of future volunteers, so it’s vital I reach my target.

“The project I’m working on is run by the development organisation VSO.

“I’ll be using my marketing skills gained from my undergraduate degree to work with local women to develop and grow enterprises within the handloom sector. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside businesses who have requested help from young volunteers to make a difference where it’s needed most. I’m really excited to get out there and help fight poverty through business.”

To sponsor Graham visit Just Giving or text IC SE £(AMOUNT) to 70070.

The event takes place at the Riveside Centre between 10am-3pm on Friday 2nd January.
