For the last two weeks, final year journalism degree student (and Islander) Charlotte Stockdale, has been working as an intern for VB. It’s been great having Charlotte onboard and we’ve really enjoyed being able to give her the chance to sample life behind the scenes of an online news publication. Here’s what she thought of the experience. Ed
The last two weeks working for VentnorBlog have been excellent.
During other placements I’ve been perched in the corner “shadowing” and begging to be allowed to write anything.
Sally and Simon had complete faith in my ability and threw me in at deep end. I hope I didn’t flounder too much.
First rookie mistake
I admit it, during my first time out being a real life journalist I made a rookie mistake and only took one pen (which obviously ran out in the first five minutes). Thanks very much to the lovely man who lent me his.
A highlight of the past couple of weeks has got to be going to the Cowes Week launch; what better way to enjoy a sunny day than talking to Olympians and eating scones on the green of the Royal Yacht Squadron? You will be reading all about our chats to Team GB sailing soon.
Great vibe in the office
The VB office has a great vibe, sat at my desk I had a fab view of the sea and Sally’s sandwiches are possibly the nicest in the world. They are not your average cheese and marmite.
I have enjoyed feeling like a real working journalist and now I’ve finished university I best be in search of a real working job!
Have thoroughly enjoyed it
I hope you have enjoyed reading my articles as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
Sally and Simon have been fantastic hosts; in fact, they got me tea when I think it’s normally the other way around. Thank you very much to them for making me feel so welcome; and to the cats, who are the only cats in the world who like me.
