Children’s poster competition aims to clean up dog mess problem

Ventnor Town Council (VTC) are launching a kid’s competition to design a poster encouraging dog owners to pick up after their dogs.

There has been a growing problem with dog mess on the streets, in bags in bushes or on green spaces in the town, so the VTC are hoping new posters displayed around the town will bring this to an end.

Who can enter
The competition is open to all children up to and including 16-years-old.

There will be three age groups; Up to 6-years-old, 7-11 years and 12 to 16-years-old.

There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize of a £5 Crave ice cream voucher, and one overall winner.

Have fun
Entrants are encouraged to use humour, and to try different mediums – collage, painting, drawing, textiles – anything that conveys the message to encourage dog owners to pick up after their dogs.

Poetry, comic strips, jokes are all welcome.

Your poster on display?
Posters will be on public display around Ventnor, and if other town and parish councils would like to display the posters then they might even be displayed all over the Island.

The competition will be judged by Sandown’s National Poo Museum, and the winners will be announced on Monday 12th July

How to enter
The deadline for entries 9th July.  Once your children or grandchildren have created their masterpieces, send a good photo of it (with their age) to [email protected] and marked ‘Poo Competition’.

The posters will be printed onto A4 paper, so please take a good photo of the skillfully-crafted work, being mindful of light and shadows.
