Cowes Concert BandAn Isle of Wight brass band will be given a cash boost from an unlikely source – a local fish and chip shop.

Cowes Concert Band will benefit from a fundraising week at the town’s popular Corries Cabin take-away and restaurant.

60th anniversary for band
Between February 21 and 27 the Shooters Hill shop donated a percentage of its takings to the band, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Also benefiting from the week will be the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Ellen MacArthur Trust which gives sailing opportunities to seriously ill children.

In its eight year of support
Corries Cabin proprietor Richard Quigley said: “This is the eighth year we have held a fundraising week and this year we hope to raise more than ever.

“I am delighted to help Cowes Concert Band in its 60th anniversary year. As well as entertaining Islanders the band also gives people of all ages the chance to learn and play a brass instrument.”

Band musical director Andy Norman said: “The support from Corries Cabin is extremely welcome – we are continually looking at ways of raising funds to keep the band running and ensure that it remains an important part of the community.”
