Christ The King Offers Pupils Laptop Purchase Scheme

Christ the King have launched a new laptop scheme for their students.

Christ the King laptopThey see that students having laptops will ensure that not only are they relaxed with the technology, but that learning will be able to happen both in the classroom and can be extended to home as well.

As they’ve explained it to pupils, “We are not planning to supersede traditional teaching methods but to provide access to alternative methods and resources that can stimulate and inform students’ learning.”

Software included
The school has chosen a standard laptop and will load it with software including Microsoft 7 Professional, Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus and the latest Adobe Creative Suite package.

The software will be covered by the college’s software site license, so included in the price along with free upgrades to the software.

Parents are being asked to provide a broadband connection at their homes so students can connect to the college network.

Monthly payment scheme
The college has arranged a rental scheme that runs over two years that includes the cost of the laptop, software and a fully-comprehensive insurance policy.

The first payment of £45 acts as a non-refundable deposit. This is followed by 21 monthly payments of £15, to be paid by by Direct Debit, bringing the total rental cost over the period of £360.

Option to buy
Pupils or parents who decide that they want to keep the laptop at the end of the scheme, there is an option to buy the laptop for what CtK describe as “a small final fee, subject to all necessary clearance.”

If the student leaves during the rental period, parents have the option to either hand back the laptop to the College and cancel their Direct Debit agreement, or to continue paying the rental fee if the student wishes to keep the laptop.

For parents who feel that they can’t afford the payment, it’s suggested that they, “contact the College to discuss possible options for support.”
