WWSC - Cheque Dec 2014:

Christmas comes early for the West Wight Youth Project

The Christmas bonus was donated by the former Youth Club committee and the cash will be used to fund new activities for young people next year.

It’s just another part of the success story since the Centre took on the running of youth activities in the West Wight.

Clare Griffin, Centre Manager says,

“We only launched our new youth project in November, but we’ve been overwhelmed with how popular it has become with young people in the local community.

“We’re now running several youth nights, supporting youngsters through the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, and our Sunday night youth football sessions are thriving!

“We’ve taken on an apprentice and have 9 regular weekly volunteers who help with our youth clubs, and family swim sessions for youngsters with disabilities.”

Through the project, the Centre is now offering subsidised admission to its gym and fitness classes for anyone under the age of 20.

“We’ve got lots of exciting things planned for 2015 including outreach sessions in villages in the West Wight, and taster sports coaching sessions. We are very grateful for the donation from the former Youth Club Committee as it will enable us to support even more young people.”
