CHARACTER SKETCHES
A unique art course combining creative writing and sketching. Some sessions take place outside in the local environment (weather permitting), all within walking distance of the Park Centre.

Learn to sketch using a range of materials and develop your creating writing skills using sketches as inspiration.

No experience necessary and all materials are provided.

FACE PAINTING
A six week workshop to learn the basics of face painting. Learn a variety of techniques using sponges and brushes – start with your own hand and arm and progress to practising on each other! Use your new skills on family and friends or to be able to safely face paint at school fetes, parties etc.

No experience is necessary and all materials are provided.

PAINTED PATCHWORK
A sewing and textile workshop which will incorporate patchwork and fabric painting. Develop skills and techniques and produce various items to your own design and ideas. Experiment with 3-D textiles.

This is a follow-on course from last term but new people are most welcome. Suitable for all levels.

INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP
An 8 week course to explore the world of Photoshop in a series of structured activities. Develop skills in file management, basic tools, understanding of layers and text and simple manipulation of images. Edit and adjust your
photographs or scanned images and produce stunning digital effects,
Basic computer skills are required.

COMPUTERS FOR BEGINNERS
Come and learn how to use a computer in a small and supportive group. Progress from switching a computer on, to using the internet, sending an e-mail and basic word processing.

CARNIVAL CLUB
A Carnival Learning Centre Outreach Project
If you want to make a costume to take part in your local Carnival, then this is the club for you! Whether you are part of a community group or family entry, making costumes for your children or want a costume just for yourself – come along and get help, advice and inspiration from our friendly and creative Carnival Learning Centre tutors. Learn new and easy techniques to make amazing costumes.

You don’t need to attend all the sessions – come along to as many as you need for your project. Suitable for adults and accompanied children over 8 years of age.

Dates: Several sessions are planned for July, leading to Newport Carnival on the 18 July
Course Fee: £4 per session (£2 concessions) plus a contribution towards the materials you use

Family Learning Courses
(Family Learning Workshops for adults/carers and their children working together)
FAMILY COOKERY
In conjunction with The Community Chef of the Rural Community Council.
The Community Chef will help you improve your cooking skills and learn about healthier eating. The course is aimed at parents/carers and their children working together to prepare a range of simple recipes for you to take away and enjoy at home. There is a limit of 2 school-aged children per adult. The course fee includes ingredients and containers.

STUDY SKILLS
Medina High School Families Only
The sessions are for Dads, Mums, Grandparents/Carers with or without their children to learn a variety of study techniques to help with revision for assessments and exams.

The sessions will cover writing in your own words, making visual notes including mindmaps and effective encoding (memory/revision).
