An application to change the site of the former Brading Experience into an antique and craft centre, amongst other uses, will be considered tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon by the Planning Committee.
The details
The planning application requests permission to demolish the single storey buildings to the side and back of the site, as well as the building which held the former cafe on Quay Lane.
The applicant, Aceport Property, wants to change the use of the former Brading Experience and shop to an antique and craft centre, a shop, a cafe and three flats.
Permission for a block of four terraced houses and a detached house on Quay Lane is also included in the application.
Additional housing
Just off Quay Lane, Aceport Property propose to build four detached houses.
The application also includes parking, changes to access for vehicles and a playground.
Planning permission was approved for the “World of Wheels” building to be converted into an auction sales room, the latest application requests changes to be made to this application.
Objections
A number of objections against the proposals have been made.
31 letters of representation objecting to the development were received during the original consultation in February 2011, including ones from the CPRE, Brading Town Trust and Brading Residents’ Action Group.
When consultation was opened up again in April 2012, 226 letters of representation were received.
225 of which cited reasons including; the design not being in keeping with the area, the lack of parking to serve the development and fluctuations in the local water and electricity supply.
Previously
A similar application was refused in mid 2010.
The meeting
The Planning Committee meeting will take place from 4pm tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at County Hall. Members of the public are welcome to go along and ask questions.
Officers have recommended conditional permission.
