Concern over man in dinghy leads to Solent search

For the second time this weekend Cowes RNLI lifeboat was back on the water today (Sunday) – this time taking part in a search in the western Solent.

The lifeboat was responding to a report early evening that a man in a rubber dinghy appeared to be having difficulty rowing against wind and tide in mid-Solent, off Gurnard. But despite a thorough search up to Newtown nothing was found.

Also involved in the search, from the shore, were Ventnor coastguards.

The lifeboat had been away from the station for an hour.
