Concert For The Cats @ Quay Arts

Sam Brown is the only gig that Island Music Promoters are involved in, for this Saturday night, they are responsible for pulling together a charity gig being held at Quay Arts.

Concert For The Cats @ Quay ArtsStaff Brett and Tali Trow, both of whom have recently recorded live sessions for BBC Radio, will be performing in an ‘Electro Acoustic Extravaganza’.

Proceeds from the gig will be raising funds for new enclosures for the Big Cat Sanctuary at the IW Zoo.

“The zoo really is a sanctuary for the big cats all of which would have been left in worse conditions were they not homed there – none are captured in the wild, all are cared for thoroughly and this gig will help in a small way to make their surroundings even better. The first new enclosures are a real improvement on the old, so myself and the musicians taking part are all very happy to do this,” said organizer Jon Mortimer.

So what about Staff? He’s a widely travelled Isle of Wight musician and recently released his third solo album ‘Sunseeker’ to notable critical acclaim.

This apparently led to invitations from the BBC to perform two live radio sessions which proved great successes. With influences including The Faces, Stones and Stereophonics, Staff’s soulful blues tinged tunes and distinctive vocal – ‘The right side of Rod Stewart’ (Briggy Smale) – has enjoyed major audiences at both the GuilFest (2004 and 2007) and Millennium festivals although it is perhaps better suited to more intimate surroundings.

Staff will be joined by Carl Perkins on lead guitar following a special support slot from Mr Tali Trow (with his pianist Mr Brad). Tali Trow has been playing in bands and performing as a session musician for a number of years, appearing on bills with the likes of Tom Mcrae, Kasabian and Cherry Ghost. Early in 2007 he recorded his debut solo album, The Teaspoon Incident, with the help of some wonderful artists. Spurred on by the writing process and the success of the session, he and the musicians he had recorded with took the album on the road touring the south coast and London to great response.

A minimum of £4 from each £6 ticket sold will be donated to The IoW Tiger Sanctuary. There will be the facility for any further entirely voluntary cash donations at the end of the performance. Tickets are available now from the box office on 01983 822 490. It is advised to book early!
