We’ve all heard about the big cat that has been roaming wild around the Isle of Wight for years. Perhaps you’ve seen the Sandown giant hare (we’ve seen that one ourselves) or even the wallaby?
But one VB reader wasn’t expecting to see a huge snake in his garden.
Well that’s exactly what happened to Cris Haldendy last weekend.
He was happily relaxing in his garden when all of a sudden he felt something slide over his foot.
Looking down he was surprised to see a snake, about one and a half metres in length, he tells us, and at its widest, about the width of his forearm.
Luckily he rushed indoors to grab his camera. The snake was fast and whilst weaving through the flower pots he grabbed some pictures.
Cris told us that a friend from the RSPCA later identified it as a Californian King snake. It is a constrictor, but he didn’t know that at the time.
If this snake belongs to you, get in touch with the RSPCA on 840 287 between 11am-4pm.
We understand that if it’s not claimed within seven days they will find a new home for it.
