Although the Island Free School have announced the location of their interim site for the school (due to open in September 2014), the permanent site for the school, to be built to their specifications, has not yet been announced.
However, papers for next week’s Property Disposal and Capital Programme Sub Committee reveal that plans are to build on the site of the former St Margaret’s primary school in Lowtherville (aka Upper Ventnor).
As well as the school site – which is owned by the diocese – the Island Free School have also made an offer of £180,000 for the purchase of land forming part of the adjacent Lowtherville Industrial Estate.
As previously reported through OnTheWight, the Island Free school opens this coming September with its first intake of year seven pupils. It will be opening on the site of the former St Boniface primary school with the intention of moving to larger premises once a new school is built.
The sale of the land is subject to planning permission being secured for the new building and full details are outlined in the paper below.
Members of the sub-committee will consider the sale on Tuesday 11th march from 5.30pm at County Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
