Readers will remember that almost three months ago the Isle of Wight council announced that they’d suspended two officers in connection with the ongoing delays of Cowes Enterprise College.
We thought we’d get an update from them last week so emailed with the following questions about the suspended officers.
1. Are they still suspended?
2. Are they on full pay?
3. When will they be returning to their posts?
Nothing to add?
We received a fairly swift reply from a spokesperson in the press office who said, “There is nothing to add to our previous statement at this stage.”
The previous statement had been made three months earlier, so we figured it was pretty reasonable to ask for, and get, an update. We replied,
Is the council refusing to answer whether these officers are still suspended? It’s a simple question.
Surely parents, staff and pupils at CEC that have suffered because of the extended delays to moving into the new building deserve to know the answers to our reasonable questions?
The spokesperson replied, “I must again refer you to the original statement. I think that addresses the issue of the suspension otherwise I wouldn’t be referring you to it.”
Not very helpful
We pointed out that the statement he was referring to was nearly three months old and surely it was reasonable to ask for an update.
The response? “What I am saying is that that statement remains valid. We are not going to add anything else at this stage.”
