Councillor vowed to bring back Post Office services to Wootton Bridge, and succeeded

With the opening of a new pop-up service residents of Wootton Bridge are celebrating the return of a post office to the village.

Initially operating for three hours a week, Wednesday mornings 9.30am to 12.30pm the service is a culmination of many months collaborative work between Wootton Bridge Parish Council and Community Action Isle of Wight.

The pop-up post office is situated in the former Brannons Tea Room (now simply known as ‘Brannons’) adjacent to the Parish Council office and close to the car park in Brannon Way and can handle all services except for passports.

Pitcher: I promised to get services back
Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr Daryll Pitcher, welcomed the opening,

“I am pleased that post office counter services have returned to Wootton Bridge.

“The loss of our post office was a huge blow to the community and a hot topic during the May elections. Back then I promised to get services back and I am proud to say that working in partnership we have been able to do it.

“I would like to thank Community Action Isle of Wight for their support.”

The opening means that residents of Wootton Bridge no longer have to travel to either Pan, East Cowes or Binstead to access a post office, a journey beyond many elderly and vulnerable people who had been left cut off. Instead this new service brings things closer to the people and is a relatively easy walk from most of the village.
