Cowes Floating Bridge back in service this afternoon after four-week suspension

After being out of service for more than four weeks, the Cowes Floating Bridge will be operating again from 2pm today, Tuesday 15th August.

An Isle of Wight council spokesperson said,

“Following a successful inspection from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) today we can confirm that the Floating Bridge will return to service at 2pm.

“Contractors have successfully installed a manual hard switch system, which replicates the essential aspects of the software system which had previously failed.”

They went on to add,

“During the time that the Floating Bridge has been out of service, we ensured that other preventative maintenance works were carried out on the vessel that cannot be completed whilst in service; this will reduce future downtime.

“We would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this time.”
