Floating Bridge suspended sign at East Cowes terminal

Cowes Floating Bridge faces two-week closure for essential autumn maintenance

The Cowes Floating Bridge will close for its regular autumn refit from Monday 22nd September to Friday 3rd October 2025.

Isle of Wight Council has scheduled the two-week closure to carry out essential maintenance work on the vital transport link.

Comprehensive maintenance programme
Engineers will replace the drive chains during the shutdown period. The team will service the guidewheels that help steer the floating bridge across the River Medina.

Workers will change the hydraulic oil as part of the routine maintenance schedule. The crew will also complete remedial works to the prows of the vessel.

Alternative transport arrangements
Isle of Wight Council will provide a replacement launch service for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the closure period.
