Encouraging youth participation in sailing continues to play a vital part in the success and popularity of the sport and more specifically of events like Cowes Week and there is real synergy between the two organisations. UKSA’s primary aim is to provide transformational opportunities for young people using the power of the sea and watersports.

Enjoyed great relationship over past two years
Commenting on the decision, Kate Johnson, Commercial and Marketing Director at Cowes Week Limited, said:

“Supporting youth sailing is important for the future development of Cowes Week and therefore it’s fitting to continue to focus the charitable objectives of our event on this inclusive approach. We have enjoyed a great relationship with UKSA over the past two years, and we’re extremely pleased to be able to extend this for one further year.

“UKSA has great resources in place on the Island and a local presence in Cowes. We fully support the charity’s aims and initiatives and we look forward to helping them take fundraising further through the 2016 regatta.”

A platform to raise awareness
As part of UKSA’s involvement with the regatta, they will continue to provide opportunities for all-comers to get afloat and experience the excitement of sailing at this iconic event. In addition, they will be engaging with the public shore-side with a presence at one of the main exhibition sites and working closely with the local business community and event sponsors.

Richard Thornton, CEO of UKSA commented:

“As a charity we believe in the power of the sea to make a change. Being the official charity to this world famous event for the third year running is a real honour. Not only does the Regatta provide us a platform to raise awareness, it also allows us to share the UKSA story and raise money for our ground-breaking programmes. Our thanks go to CWL for this fantastic opportunity and we look forward to August 2016.”

Cowes Week takes place 6 – 13th August 2016 and promises a lively social scene and great racing.
