Cracks in the Fort Victoria country park path

Cracks emerge in popular Country Park footpath, sparking concern (updated)

Just around the coast from the landslide that struck Totland promenade last week, cracks have appeared in a popular footpath in Fort Victoria Country Park.

The path that runs from Fort Victoria up to the Hurst Castle viewpoint is already fairly close to the edge, and concerned residents have been in touch with photos (Thanks to Greenman IOW).

One reader told News OnTheWight,

“Myself and other residents are very concerned as the path is already very close to the edge and if it collapses then its yet another path in the Fort Victoria Country Park area shut down, just like the steps to the beach a few months ago.”

Last year the park earned the esteemed Accredited Country Park Status from Natural England, making it the only accredited Country Park on the Island.

Response from the council
News OnTheWight has asked the council what action can be taken to protect the path.

A spokesperson told News OnTheWight,

“The Rights of Way team are aware and Council officers are due to inspect to assess whether a closure is necessary.”
