Thanks to Graeme for this latest set of reports from Ventnor Cricket Club. Ed

Ventnor’s ECB Southern Electric Premier Division clash at Burridge fell victim to a tea time thunderstorm on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first, the Islanders struggled to impose themselves throughout the innings and at one stage looked in real trouble at 60-4. However, with teenager Ben Duggan (51) hitting his maiden Premier Division half century, Neil Westhorpe 56, Martin Blackman 33 and James Cheek 21, the visitors eventually totalled 198 all out from 61.1 overs.

Adam Wilson dismissed Sean Terry cheaply before the rains came at 29-1 to prevent any further play.

Reigning champions South Wilts are the visitors to Newclose on Saturday, 11.30 start.

Shock defeat in T20
Ventnor crashed out of the Southern Electric Cup on Sunday, losing by three runs at Division Two side Paultons.

The home side recovered from 30-3 to post 124-7 from their 20 overs, Hugh Calloway taking 2-9 for the visitors.

Neil Westhorpe (37 not out) and James Cheek (38) got Ventnor close but with a boundary required from the final delivery, Westhorpe could only manage a single, leaving Paultons to celebrate an unexpected victory.

Convincing win for second team
Two fine innings from Pierre Kriel and Rob Snell took Ventnor towards an emphatic 70 run win over Purbrook in Hampshire League Division 1 on Saturday.

South African Kriel hit ten fours and five sixes in a blistering knock of 89 while Snell, returning from injury, made an impressive 72. With useful contributions of 23 from Pat Morris and 24 from Toby Corbin the home side set a formidable target of 272.

The visitors’ response was led by Josh Spiers with an excellent knock of 113 but once he departed at 183, the Ventnor bowlers mopped up the tail with little resistance, Barney Tyler taking 3-33, George Willis 2-18, Toby Corbin 2-29 and Charlie Calloway 2-46.

The team travel to Portchester on Saturday.

Island league team lose at Cavaliers
A century from Daniel Keller helped Ryde Cavaliers post 272-7 against Ventnor in the Island Webservices Cup at Smallbrook on Saturday, Ben Attrill and Dan Cox each taking two wickets.

Openers James Attrill with 37 and Mark Price (36) gave the visitors a 79 run start but once they departed only Dan Cox (19) held up the home side as they went on to win by 102 runs, bowling a young Ventnor side out for 170.

Cavaliers are the opposition in the League at Steephill on Saturday.

Fine win sees Ventnor under 15s lift County Cup
A terrific win by 87 runs over Ryde in the ECB Under 15 Club Championship County Final saw Ventnor celebrate their first silverware of the season at Newclose.

Ben Herridge with 53, supported by George Willis (47), James Attrill (36) and Marcus Horton (23) led their side to a huge 200-1 from 20 overs, a total Ryde were never likely to threaten once Ben Attrill with 3-26 took early wickets. They eventually closed on 113-9, Dan Cox taking 3-14.

Ventnor will face either Basingstoke or Sparsholt in the opening regional round later this month.
