Daft Old Duffer: Vestas Chat

Now the alarums and excursions are beginning to settle I’d like to express something of what many of us are thinking: It’s in the form of an open letter

Daft Old Duffer: Vestas ChatTo the Businessmen and women of the Island; Many of you will shortly be receiving applications for jobs from the ex-employees of Vesta.

You may well be hesitant -will these guys find cause to create uproar in your business?

Lock themselves in and you out?

Foment trouble among your other employees when they can’t get their own way?

I’d urge you to consider the following ….

These men and women did not act as they did because they wanted higher wages or some sort of bonus.

These men and women did not act as they did because they wanted better working conditions,a canteen with subsidised meals and longer holidays.

These men and women did not act as they did because they wanted some of the little perks common among management staff -a stretched dinner break to entertain a client, leaving early because it’s their wedding anniversary and they’ve booked an evening out, or taking an afternoon because there’s a golf tournament at the local club.

THESE MEN AND WOMEN ACTED AS THEY DID BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO WORK.

It’s not they who let their employer down – it’s their employer who let them down.

I venture to suggest if you don’t snap them up your business may be in jeopardy – not from them but from a somewhat foolish management.
