Davina Fiore: £100,000 For A Four Day Week From IW Council

VentnorBlog had heard that Davina Fiore, Director of Corporate Services and Monitoring Officer at the Isle of Wight council was only working a four-day week for her £100,000+ salary.

We asked the council, “We understand that Davina Fiore does a four day week. Please confirm/deny.” A simple enough question and one that should take no time to answer – you would have thought.

Ten days of delay
After ten days of no reply from Gavin Foster in the Communications department at the council, we prompted him again and got this reply, “Hello Simon. Your understanding is correct.” (Is it co-incidental that whenever VB asks the council questions they might find awkward, they take ages to answer?)

Full package revealed
Yesterday the Tax Payers Alliance released a document called Town Hall Rich List 2011 (Thanks to playingthenumbers for highlighting this).

They reveal the full details of Davina Fiore’s remuneration by the Isle of Wight council – Salary £100,786; Expense Allowance £2,441; Pension contributions £21,165.

£125,982, if full time
If she was to work full-time, her salary would be £125,982.

Earlier this week, VB disclosed Davina’s legal advice over the closure of the libraries. Here’s a link to the articles on VB that Davina Fiore has been mentioned in.

Yet another long winded pompous title designed to make a pen pusher look important.
What’s wrong with Manager,Social Care?
It’s no more and no less meaningless a title and it will take up much less space on all the brand new letterheads and forms that will need redesigning.
Good job our council are determined to save money.

well that doesnt discribe his job fully. community wellbeing is clearly important too and should be included in his job title, even if noone seems to know what it means. Im guessing it means he will be out an about making sure people in the community are being well… As for him being a Strategic Director, I presume this means he is in charge of the Islands… Read more »

Strategy has a much wider use than military: a management strategy is a course of action designed to meet specific objectives derived from a policy.
I just made that up, so please give me credit if you quote it.

Thats a bit silly. Strategic clearly means that he is managing the organisations direction as apposed to managing its day to day operations.

its a bit silly of you to spell whinging incorrectly, but you still did. my comment was tounge in cheek, as anyone can see. However, I really dont think someone managing the direction of a council department is needed, in this or any other department. Every person and case the department deals with will be different, each with their own needs, and so an overall “direction” is… Read more »

At least he has some history in social care, not somebody who has failed elsewhere and been slotted into a job he is useless in.

His track record here doesn’t seem that great yet. Under his direction social services have failed to meet personal budget targets, they have one of the worst sickness and absence records in the country and he’s managed to upset most of the social care staff greatly.
Can’t wait to see what he’s going to do next year!!
