Hot on the heels of Brian Thompson making fifth place in the Vendee Globe race earlier today, this lunchtime Dee Caffari crossed the finish line securing not only sixth place, but also the world record as the first woman in history to sail solo, non stop around the world in both directions.
Normally based just across the water in Gosport, Dee has been sailing the oceans of the world non stop for a whopping 99 days, a feat which has now secured her life long goal of breaking a double world record.
Even before the success of this new world record, Dee Caffari has shown herself to be a pretty inspirational person. She’s been involved in all manner of initiatives to promote health and fitness including her role as ambassador for Active Southampton.
